Position: Librarian III - Staff Trainer

Position Description: Overall knowledge of library resources and procedures. Develop and conduct training programs for library staff on system-wide library policies, procedures and resources; including programs on reference materials, online resources/databases, customer service, readers advisor, and up-to-date technology skills. Coordinate with department heads to provide training programs to meet individual, departmental or system-wide needs. Plan and coordinate the annual staff development day. Plan and conduct a training course for all new reference staff that is offered as necessary. Monitor library trends and new technologies that would enhance staff development. Evaluate and revise programs to reflect changing needs and analyze results of training on staff performance. Coordinate, plan and implement effective training programs that meet library training and developmental needs, utilizing the knowledge and skills of the system circulation manager, coordinators, business office manager, public information office, and other staff. Develop and maintain community partnerships with local schools and community groups. Represent the library system by presenting programs or demonstrations for adults at community events. Develop and coordinate library orientation for full-time and part-time staff. Develop online training materials on basic library procedures/skills available to both the staff and patrons. Maintain a repository of training materials for staff on the library’s intranet. Record and monitor staff participation and attendance at training programs; maintain monthly statistics. Assist with developing system-wide policies and procedures as a member of the Administrative Council. Review library budget relating to training projects; monitors and maintains budget expenditures. Attend appropriate conferences, workshops and training related to library training programs and staff development. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Required Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school with knowledge of current library practices and technologies.
Required Experience: Three years job related experience post MLS in a public library with one year supervisory responsibility.

Special Instructions: Must be able to demonstrate end-user proficiency on computers; automated library systems, databases, Internet searching and other electronic resources. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, supervisory and organizational skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, administrators from both organizations and elected officials. Ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Requires weekend and evening work as assigned.
