Position: Branch Manager - La Porte Branch

Position Description: Interviews, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates staff.
Acts as a coach and mentor to library staff to encourage them to develop leadership abilities.
Ensures that the Library's "Star Values" are practiced by staff.
Implements and interprets library policies and procedures.
Acts as a liaison both internally with staff and externally with organizations such as the local Friends of the Library, community based partners, and non-profit entities.
Oversees day-to-day operation of branch.
Develops and maintains the branch materials collection.
Provides reference and reader's advisory service.
Develops the branch's annual budget for the county and city budget where applicable; monitors expenditure of branch's gift and memorial fund.
Identifies library needs in the community; plans and provides services and programs to meet community needs.
Develops an ongoing and highly-visible public relations program.
Attends required meetings.
Attends professional conferences and activities.
Obtains a minimum of 20 training hours per calendar year.
Prepares reports and compiles and analyzes statistics as needed.
Supervises building maintenance needs.
Performs other work as needed.

Required Education: Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited school.
Required Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian.
At least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory experience.
Knowledge of the principles of leadership, supervision and management and the ability to implement them fairly and equitably in a complex fast changing environment.
Knowledge of the current trends in public libraries, especially in regard to the use of emerging technologies for both internal and public service operations.
Working knowledge of current technology.
Must be able to:
Plan and implement programs and services to meet the changing needs of customers.
Accept and manage change and maintain flexibility.
Exercise initiative and act with discretion.
Establish and maintain effective working relations with associates and the general public.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing including the ability to speak before groups and organizations.
Supervise staff and organize work priorities.
